Choosing a French Door Style Refrigerator
French Door Refrigerators - This style has become increasingly popular in the last few years. The freezer is a drawer at the bottom and the refrigerator is in the upper half. Two doors, with the handles at the center of the appliance, open outward. This allows for a wide storage area, like the standard freezer on top or bottom style refrigerator.
The advantages of this refrigerator are similar to the bottom-freezer model. The cold storage is at eye level, making it easier to find and reach items without stooping over. The storage area allows large items to fit, unlike some side-by-side models. Because of its popularity, another advantage is a large selection from a wide variety of manufacturers and price ranges. The two doors are less likely to interfere with kitchen traffic than the single wide door of other styles. There are more models that offer both ice and water service through the door than on freezer over or under refrigerator models.
Disadvantages include the minimum price is higher than standard freezer over or under the fridge and side-by-side models. The fresh food section may be difficult for young children to reach or use. Also, freezer drawers sometimes make finding items in the drawer difficult as new items get stacked on top of older items.
