How To Speed Up a Slow PC

How To Speed Up A Slow PC And Combat Computer Problems

Did you know that anyone can easily speed up a slow computer by simply spending a few minutes on this task every month? This will not only substantially increase your productivity, but will also reduce the number of computer problems you encounter.

It is possible for even a novice user to become an expert when it comes to solving common PC problems and computer slowdown issues.

Here are some easy ways to tackle these problems:

Remove Unwanted Programs

A drawback of lightening Internet speed and free software available for download is that we often download stuff we do not use or require. Unwanted programs not only occupy unnecessary space on the hard disk, but may also consume important system resources – in terms of CPU and memory usage.

What’s more, processes belonging to software that you do not use may constantly run in the background, leaving insufficient resources for essential processes. As you can guess, this will cause a drop in your computer’s performance.

Why let such a situation arise? Go through the list of installed programs and remove programs you do not use or require. One more thing, when you remove a program, ensure that all its traces are removed from your system. To achieve this, use the built-in Add or Remove Programs utility.

At times, you may find that certain programs, such as antivirus programs may not get completely removed by using the Add or Remove Programs utility. In such cases, it is best to seek the help of a reliable uninstaller tool. For instance, if you cannot uninstall AVGsecurity suite using the built-in Windows utility, uninstall it with help of a reliable third-party uninstaller tool.

Remove Unwanted Files

You can further free up space on your hard disk by deleting unused files. Windows computers come with a built-in utility called the Disk Cleanup tool that allows you to achieve this.

Defragment the Data Stored on your Hard Drives

Another useful utility that is included in Windows computers is the Disk Defragmenter tool. On a new computer, the data on the hard disk is stored as continuous blocks of information which facilitate quick file retrieval. However, over time the data on hard drives gets fragmented.

A fragmented hard disk not only slows down your computer, but may also become the source of various errors. To efficiently manage the way data is stored on your hard drives, regularly defrag your hard drives using the Disk Defragmenter utility.

Perform Regular Malware Scans

Malware programs, such as viruses, worms, rootkits, and spyware may corrupt your application and system files. In fact, common computer errors, such as binkw32.dll generally occur due to malware infections. Besides causing various errors and system slow downs, malware programs are also a threat to your confidential information.

To prevent your system from falling prey to such harmful programs, install reliable and advance antivirus and antispyware tools and schedule regular malware scans of your entire computer.

Perform Regular Registry Scans

It is no secret that for an efficient and error-free computer you need to ensure that the Windows registry is clean and compact. To prevent unwanted, incorrect, and obsolete information from accumulating in the registry, run regular registry scans, using reliable registry cleaning software.
